Medical Care & Data
Lukas Engelberger, Government counsellor, head of the department of health, canton of Basel-Stadt
Opportunities and challenges that data brings to the health sector - at the level of patients and practitioners, for research and for public health. One of the major challenges today is the large amount of data and the fragmentation. An effective instrument for data exchange is the electronic patient dossier, which should be used as widely as possible in Switzerland. In research, approaches such as the Swiss personalised health network represent great opportunities for the use of patient data. In the area of public health, population cohorts can make important contributions. When using data, it is important that the data protection of highly sensitive health data is always ensured.
